About

Welcome! I am grateful to have you check out conditional cognition.

I am on a journey for deeper understanding of the world, or rather universe, in which we live. I aim to record my observations and interpretations in order to hone my sense of things; yet, I believe…

that complete truth can never be fully attained.

all that we know, whether real or imagined, is limited by our own perceptions.

any knowledge we attain passes through our own lens of awareness.

a million of us can witness the same event and recant a million different narratives as to what took place.

the understanding of one is contingent upon the way this one views all of existence, which stems from everything that came before him or her.

the roots laid before us have split into infinite paths, creating the individual uniqueness of all with an underlying singularity that connects us.

no individual can truly know that what he or she knows is true.

anything that has been understood relies on the means and context in which this information became known.

Thus, conditional cognition.

Any opinions, observations, judgments, truths, tales, conjectures, declarations, statements or whatever else graces the pages of this blog must be viewed as conditional cognition.

It is what it is.

Or is it?

    1. Thanks for checking out it out. When I was trying to focus the ‘niche’ of my blog (though I still wonder if I truly fit into a particular one), I wrote a list of all words that described it and chose these two for the blog name. It’s worked well for me.

  1. I want to start by saying . . . if you’d rather not participate, I totally understand. I have declined in the past myself. It is kind of a pain in the arse. That said.

I’m awarding you the Versatile Blogger Award because I like your blog and think others will too. As with everything in life, there are strings attached. 1) You are to give the award to 15 other bloggers you feel are deserving and notify them of the award. 2) Make a post thanking the person that gave you the award (moi’) and listing your 15 choices. Provide links to these 16 blogs in your post. 3) Lastly, in your post, list seven things the bloggy world doesn’t know about you.

Here is the info I was given for the graphic of the award to be used in your post.

Personally, I had trouble with it, so feel free to contact me if you need help.

The bottom line . . . whether you participate or not . . . I think you have a rockin’ blog.

  2. Hey, came across your blog through Chuck’s Rounders and Rogues blog and, though I’ve had little time to peruse, I have to say your topics of discussion are right up my alley. Are you familiar with the eastern (well, not really anymore, quite western now as well) concept of non-duality or non-dual awareness?

    Cheers!

  3. I’ve recently discovered Rounders and Rogues , enjoy reading his posts and am still exploring the site.

I’m not familiar with the concept of non-dualism, but just looked it up. After briefly reviewing some info, it seems like something aligns with my personal beliefs of existence; though, I do need to do more research.

Thanks for sharing that with me!

    1. Sure. Out of curiosity, I looked up the Wikipedia page on it and wow, they make it sound very complicated! I guess they’re writing from an academic perspective.

It’s really just about using the mind for what it was designed for (e.g.: math, memory, learning to write and read) and being able to ignore the mind when it is not called for (e.g.: 99% of the time).

For example, on a very simple level, why do we feel a subtle sense of anxiety or uneasiness (also called boredom) when we just sit quietly in a room with nothing to do? Nothing is wrong in that moment yet the mind/body system reacts as if it is danger. Very interesting… Not to mention all the interpreting and misinterpreting of situations and people which the mind causes us to do on a daily basis, as well as ruminating endlessly on the past or worrying about the future.

So non-duality is just about the state in which it is seen that most of what we take to be true is nothing more than mental objects that are playing like movies in our heads. When that is seen clearly the world suddenly appears exactly as it is, no more no less. And the mind/body system tends to feel at peace.

I’m not there yet, and there’s a big difference between understanding it as a mental concept and living it. But that’s the basic idea. And that is why eastern sages called the world illusory. Not because it doesn’t exist, but because the situations and concerns we take to be true are usually 99% of our mental-making and bear little resemblance to ultimate reality.

      1. Thanks for the clarification. I did not find any clear explanations during my web searches, but had a general idea. I’m glad that you’ve mad me aware of the concept of non-duality, because I’ve thought for a long time the world in which we live is “illusory.” I wish I could have certainty that our perceptions reveal the true world, but I can’t. Maybe I will be exposed to another way of thinking that sways me, but until then I go with what I “know.”
